Pat maintains a small native tree and plant nursery that is used to replenish the main forest reserve. This is done by taking cuttings or removing small plants from the reserve, nourishing them and replanting in better locations in the reforestation area.
Various interest groups have their own areas that they have planted and maintain. More are welcome. Local schools are beginning to maintain their own areas too – planting, weeding, learning, potting-up etc. It’s an enjoyable and interesting way to teach sound environmental practices.
Sherwood looks upon the reserve and the nurseries as an Environmental and Educational Centre – as after working in the Reserve, further learning can be achieved in the library where there are interesting books and displays on Flora and Fauna.
